"5.0 out of 5 stars A pacey, practical and personable read that will help you and your team better manage burnout
A pacey, practical and personable read from one of the UK’s leading executive coaches, organisational consultants and clinical psychologists Dr. Michael Drayton. I particularly appreciated Dr. Drayton’s contextualisation and orientation to the psychological understanding of “burnout” not just as an individually located problem, but as an issue for organisations to proactively safeguard against. This book provides a wealth of strategies to help address individual, interpersonal and organisational factors associated with “burnout” alongside deeper understandings of the phenomena. Dr. Drayton delivers his message in Anti-Burnout, with readily relatable examples of what to look out for and address drawing from the psychological literature alongside his own compassionately rendered experiences. I really enjoyed the clear, psychologically informed, advice for managers on potentially challenging conversations with colleagues in order to take a proactive, anti-burnout approach: location, personality, unconscious cognitive bias and talking to those who reject help are all considered. The book additionally clearly outlines protective practical techniques such as increasing physical, emotional, mental and existential/spiritual energy within an organisation, alongside modes of leadership more broadly. In sum, a warm, informative, relevant book that I can highly recommend. Affording wisdom to guide you and your team in the physical or remote/online workplace"
