"I found this book not only informative but full of practical ideas and advice to help individuals and organisations.

There are some useful tools which help give a framework for understanding how people are affected and how this works with different personality types. Importantly the book also points out how the context of organisational culture leads to difficulties rather than blaming the individual, and how we might notice signs of burnout and support colleagues.

A must have read to implement healthy changes ate optimise occupational functioning."

Burning Bright Without Burning Out: The Anti-Burnout Workbook for Busy Professionals

A review for 'Burning Bright Without Burning Out: The Anti-Burnout Workbook for Busy Professionals'

"An excellent book which provides good insight for both the individual and organisation. It comfortably combines recognising the signs of burnout with suggesting effective practical solutions for both the employee and employer. Through focusing on the four factors of resilience it provides workable exercises and a valuable toolkit to help increase personal resilience to help improve management of pressure and stress.

I liked the way the book focused not only on the impact of burnout for the individual but also organisations. It effectively and clearly reinforced the organisation’s responsibility to recognise the signs of burnout and to take appropriate action to bring the appropriate effective improvements which compliment the action taken by individuals."

An absorbing read which provides considerable depth and understanding together with the practical tools to help make better longer lasting organisational change.

I would throughly recommend to individuals, people managers and organisations.

A review for 'Burning Bright Without Burning Out: The Anti-Burnout Workbook for Busy Professionals'

"Topics covered include what is burnout, the impact in has on the individual as well as the wider teams and organisation, as well as the cause of burnout and how it can be prevented. The book also looks at how the new remote working has amplified burnout.

The book draws upon scientific studies and is also interactive with quizzes so that you can understand where you are and how to deal with certain situations.

I really enjoyed this book and thought it was a useful reminder – especially in our remote working/advanced technological (meaning we are always on) world. We often think working hard is incredibly productive but if someone ends up off with burnout it can have a major impact on a business and yet sometimes the simplest things can prevent it e.g. ensuring staff take a regular break.

I think all managers should take a read and think about what changes they can make to their work culture to prevent burnout."

"This book was super in-depth and looked at burnout from many different angles. I like the way it took the angle of employer and how best to support employees and things to look out for/warning signs. There were of course some common sense parts, but on the whole it was really unique. The book includes multiple quizzes so that readers can identify different things about themselves, and how best to deal with certain situations. Overall, this was a super interesting read and there was a lot to take away!."

"This book could not have come at a better time, when individuals, groups and organisations seem to be imploding psychologically all around us. I love the way Mike moves from story or small detail to analysis. It reminds me of Erich Auerbach’s classic work Mimesis. Drawing on dozens of psychologists, novelists and poets, the arguments build up magisterially, each chapter concluding with incredibly useful takeaways. It is also a deeply personal story, and brilliant on the stories we tell ourselves. Having a great interest in Alan Turing, I was delighted to see Bletchley Park as a positive organisational example at the conclusion. How could one resist turning the next page after an early line such as ‘I will also explain why zebras don’t get ulcers’?"

A review for 'The Saboteur at Work: How the Unconscious Mind Can Sabotage Ourselves, Our Organisations and Society'

"Do you want to know why zebras don't get ulcers? Or, more seriously, how we tackle (self-) sabotage in organisations? Then this book has the essential answers to these questions. The Saboteur at Work couldn't be more timely as we live in a society with increasing challenges and stresses. Dr Drayton provides insights into themes we all need to address to keep ourselves and society safer from (self) saboteurs. He has the most captivating, vivid writing style, combining practical experience and science, historical and recent examples, including stories of success and catastrophe. A key piece of work for individuals and organisations alike."

A review for 'Anti-Burnout: How to Create a Psychologically Safe and High-Performance Organisation'

"5.0 out of 5 stars A pacey, practical and personable read that will help you and your team better manage burnout

A pacey, practical and personable read from one of the UK’s leading executive coaches, organisational consultants and clinical psychologists Dr. Michael Drayton.  I particularly appreciated Dr. Drayton’s contextualisation and orientation to the psychological understanding of “burnout” not just as an individually located problem, but as an issue for organisations to proactively safeguard against.  This book provides a wealth of strategies to help address individual, interpersonal and organisational factors associated with “burnout” alongside deeper understandings of the phenomena.   Dr. Drayton delivers his message in Anti-Burnout, with readily relatable examples of what to look out for and address drawing from the psychological literature alongside his own compassionately rendered experiences. I really enjoyed the clear, psychologically informed, advice for managers on potentially challenging conversations with colleagues in order to take a proactive, anti-burnout approach: location, personality, unconscious cognitive bias and talking to those who reject help are all considered. The book additionally clearly outlines protective practical techniques such as increasing physical, emotional, mental and existential/spiritual energy within an organisation, alongside modes of leadership more broadly.  In sum, a warm, informative, relevant book that I can highly recommend.  Affording wisdom to guide you and your team in the physical or remote/online workplace"
